Memories that do not pass over time. Do you remember the attack in the Park hotel at Passover? Just over a month ago, but already seems like… [The news, Uncensored.]

A firsthand account of the the Passover bombing by a survivor. I think this is a “must read” piece.

A letter from New Zealand .

A letter from New Zealand. Dave White wrote an open letter to the Palestinian people, which is well worth reading. From the letter: “Do not… [The news, Uncensored.]

bq. Golda Meir, the former Israeli Prime minister, is quoted as saying “there will be peace in the Middle East only when the Arabs love their children more than they hate Israel”. Every time I see pictures of Palestinian children waving guns and wearing dummy explosives, then I can only say she is right.

Argentine banks open their doors. Argentine banks reopen after a ten-day shutdown aimed at staving off
financial collapse. [BBC News: world]

bq. Senior government figures said the banking freeze, coupled with recent legal changes aimed at making it more difficult for savers to challenge restrictions on withdrawals, should save the banking system from collapse.

Perhaps an appropriate response would be for Argentine depositors to impose a banking freeze of their own. Anybody who’s had their money stolen this way could refuse to pay back any bank loans until the banking restrictions are lifted.

Palestinian fighter describes ‘hard fight’ in Jenin. (via Renata) “A senior member of Palestinian Islamic Jihad who surrendered to Israeli forces in Jenin described the battle as… [The news, Uncensored.]

bq. Mardawi said he and other Palestinian fighters had expected Israel to attack with planes and tanks. He spoke enthusiastically about Israel’s decision to send in infantry.

“It was like hunting … like being given a prize. I couldn’t believe it when I saw the soldiers,” he said. “The Israelis knew that any soldier who went into the camp like that was going to get killed.”

If the Palestinians had been fighting Americans, they would have gotten bombs and artillery. The whole city would have been flattened without any loss of American life–but with much higher civilian casualties. The Israelis took heavy casualties in order to protect the lives of people who hate them, and as thanks for their efforts they are condemned by the “international community.”

Israel Delays U.N.
Apr 29th, 2002 by Ken Hagler

Israel Delays U.N. Probe of Jenin. Israeli officials accused the United Nations on Monday of conducting a smear campaign against Israel, as the Israeli Cabinet further delayed the arrival of a U.N. fact-finding mission at the Jenin refugee camp. [AP World News]

This article finally lists who the three UN people are. Two of them are Europeans, one is Japanese. The official quoted in the article also describe the UN as an anti-Israel organization–it’s nice to see this pointed out.

Europa Universalis II coming to Mac [MacCentral]

This is good news. I have a copy of the original (PC-only) Europa Universalis, and it seems like a pretty impressive strategy game. I haven’t really played it, though, since I only have a PC at work.

Is Programming a Dead End Job? [Slashdot: News for nerds, stuff that matters]

I had a programming job for nine months, and I left to go back to QA because I was offered 50% more. Since then I’ve been offered a couple of other programming jobs, but they paid much less than what I get from Symantec for QA.

Israel: UN Jenin Team Lacks Balance .
Apr 25th, 2002 by Ken Hagler

Israel: UN Jenin Team Lacks Balance. Israel pushed the United Nations on Wednesday to clarify the mandate of a U.N. fact-finding team and add members with military expertise, saying the mission appears designed to blame Israel for devastation wrought in battles with Palestinian gunmen in the Jenin refugee camp. [AP World News]

I haven’t seen any mention of who the UN intends to send. This would seem like a rather important detail–what if they are all Europeans?
