Another isolated incident

Afghan chief shot in Nato ‘mistake’. Governor killed in “misunderstanding” as troops mistake chief for Taliban fighter. [AL JAZEERA ENGLISH (AJE)]

From the article:

An Afghan district governor and two of his bodyguards have been killed by mistake in a Nato raid on a house in Uruzgan province, police say.

[…]

Khan was allegedly killed on Wednesday when he went to the aid of a friend who had called for help believing the Taliban had surrounded his home, Uruzgan police chief, Gulab Khan, said.

The forces outside the man’s home were however international troops, who in turn mistook the governor and his men for Taliban fighters, Gulab Khan said.

But of course, any Afghans fighting against the foreign troops occupying their country must be Taliban. It’s simply inconceivable that anyone in that entire country could possibly have any reason whatsoever to want to kill foreign troops unless they were Taliban motivated solely by religious fanaticism. Or so the government and media will continue to insist.
