Mind your major, foreigner. The White House, back in October 2001 issued a directive, called Combating Terrorism Through Immigration Policies. This directive contains six subdirectives which deal with everything from a new Foreign Terrorist Tracking Task Force, to budgetary support for the initiatives themselves. Recent news is drawing closer scrutiny upon the third subdirective, titled Abuse of International Student Status. This subdirective directs the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, along with the Attorney General and other officials and departments, to restrict foreign students from studying subjects which are deemed sensitive, including “areas of study with direct application to the development and use of weapons of mass destruction” [kuro5hin.org]

Hopefully someone in the government with a working brain cell will drop this idea, before they actually get around to blocking foreigns students from studying physics, chemistry, and medicine.
